Butterworth-born musician and University of Fort Hare (UFH) Political Science master’s student, Bulumko “Slogan” Mapukata, has taken the South African music industry by storm with the release of his independently produced debut album. Within just one week of its release, the album skyrocketed to the top of music charts, cementing Slogan’s position as a rising star in the music scene.
At the age of 27, Slogan, who is currently based in East London, holds an impressive educational background, having completed a Bachelor of Administration in Public Administration and an Honours degree in Political Science from UFH. Now, he has proven his versatility and creativity by venturing into the world of music.
Titled “Bulumko” (meaning “Wisdom” in English), Slogan’s six-track EP was unleashed on May 30th to eager listeners. The project quickly gained traction and has secured the coveted number one spot on iTunes, a remarkable achievement for an independent artist. Additionally, one of Slogan’s tracks, “Isiphithiphithi,” featuring Nombila, has garnered attention and is currently featured on one of Spotify’s Top 25 Playlists for hottest unknown songs in South Africa.
Expressing his gratitude, Slogan extended his heartfelt thanks to his over 7000 Facebook supporters, acknowledging their unwavering support.
