According to a newspaper report, Deputy President Paul Mashatile married Humile Mjongile this past week.
City Press reported that Mashatile sent a delegation to Humile’s family home in Ekurhuleni over the weekend to pay lobola.
Mashatile’s spokesperson, Keith Khoza, confirmed the lobola negotiations and added that there was a traditional wedding celebration over two days.
The spokesperson told City Press that members of the media were not invited because these private events are normally “the first step.”
Mashatile and Mjongile will reportedly have a wedding with guests later this year. The now-deputy president’s wife, Manzi Ellen, died a week after his mother’s funeral in 2020.
Humile’s late husband – former ANC Western Cape Secretary Songezo Mjongile – died of colon cancer in September 2020. The ANC said he was diagnosed in April 2020.
