Nqatha pleased with Sanral infrastructure rollout

The MEC for Transport in the Eastern Cape, Xolile Nqatha has commended SANRAL’s investment in the province’s road infrastructure network.

According to Nqatha, SANRAL has spent more than eight billion rand constructing several provincial and national roads in the past three years.

“As the provincial government, we are extremely grateful to witness that our women and young people are benefitting from the agency’s projects across
the province. These projects will surely contribute to alleviating the triple challenges of unemployment, inequality, and poverty facing our society which have a negative impact on our people, given the historical background of the Eastern Cape,” he said.

He said that the participation of women in these projects will contribute to transforming gender relations and the fight against patriarchy.

Some of the projects that have already created a massive number of jobs for our people:
• N2 Msikaba Bridge – the new facility
• N2 Nqadu to Mbokotwana (19km)
• R63 Fort Beaufort to Alice (20km)
• N2 Green River to King Williamstown (8km)
• R67 Black Kei River to Queenstown (17km)
• R56 Indwe to Maclear (124km)
• N2 Breidbach and Belstone Interchanges

We are extremely delighted to note that SANRAL is planning to spend close to 60 billion rand constructing roads in our province over the next five years, he said.
