Nqaba Bhanga faces suspension from DA over accusations of bringing party into disrepute

Former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Nqaba Bhanga.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape has taken action against one of its members, Nqaba Bhanga, following allegations of bringing the party into disrepute.

The DA has unanimously resolved to serve Bhanga with a notice of intention to suspend him from all party activities pending the outcome of an investigation. Bhanga was given 48 hours to explain why he should not be suspended after he labelled federal leader Hellen Zille a “racist”.

The party said the matter has been referred to the party’s Federal Legal Commission (FLC) for an investigation.

DA EC leader Andrew Whitfield said the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape has unanimously resolved to serve DA member Nqaba Bhanga with a notice of intention to suspend him from all party activities pending the outcome of an investigation into claims of bringing the party in disrepute, among other transgressions of the DA’s standards of conduct for its members.

“After receiving the notice of intention to suspend him, Bhanga will have 48 hours to respond in writing with reasons as to why he should not be suspended. The DA in the Eastern Cape is deeply disappointed by Bhanga’s conduct which is contrary to his previous commitment to non-racialism and the Party,” said DA EC leader Andrew Whitfield.

In addition, Bhanga accused Zille of working with the ANC to destroy him in Facebook posts over the weekend. The former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor’s post has since been deleted.
