Ndlozi parts ways with EFF

Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has officially resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and announced his decision to step away from politics entirely. In an exclusive interview with the public broadcaster, the former EFF spokesperson confirmed his departure, putting an end to the speculation surrounding his political future.

While acknowledging some internal tensions within the party, Ndlozi stressed that his resignation was a personal decision made after careful reflection. “I’ve decided to completely step away from party politics. I believe I’ve made my contribution in that space,” he explained.

He addressed rumors suggesting he might join the African National Congress (ANC) following his recent praise of President Cyril Ramaphosa on social media. “We don’t live in a one-party state. We’re not in camps, and we’re not banned,” he clarified.

Looking forward, Ndlozi expressed his desire to contribute to the country outside of party politics, particularly in the academic field. “I want to focus on the academy and help elevate the level of discourse in the country,” he shared.

His departure comes amid ongoing leadership shifts within the EFF, including the resignation of Floyd Shivambu as deputy president in 2024. The party has acknowledged Ndlozi’s exit but has yet to comment further.

Ndlozi emphasized his passion for improving the quality of public discourse and expressed interest in revitalizing the civil society space, which he feels has been neglected. “This is where you can cultivate and agitate for freedom, community development, and advocacy. It’s time someone did for the people what AfriForum is doing for the Afrikaners,” he stated.

His resignation follows that of other prominent EFF members, including former deputy leader Floyd Shivambu, who left the party last year to join Jacob Zuma’s MK Party. Ndlozi confirmed that his suspension from the EFF stemmed from charges that he was involved in the MK Party’s infiltration plan and failed to inform the leadership about Shivambu’s departure. He also explained that his suspension, which was issued six weeks before the EFF’s December elective conference, was irregular because it did not adhere to the party’s official code of conduct.
