Amathole District Municipality, Thursday, 06 February 2025 – Following the severe weather conditions that left numerous households homeless between December 2024 and January 2025, the Amathole District Municipality (ADM), in collaboration with the National Department of Human Settlements (NDHS), has successfully completed the verification of disaster reports for the affected areas.
In a move to assist those affected, ADM will host NDHS for an official introduction of the appointed service providers, who will aid in the construction of Temporary Residential Units (TRUs).
The plans include the construction of 217 TRUs in Mbhashe Local Municipality and 8 in Amahlathi Local Municipality. Further announcements regarding contractors for other impacted municipalities will be made once the NDHS finalizes its internal procedures.
The initiative aims to provide swift and effective housing solutions for those who have lost their homes due to the recent weather-related disasters.
